  • This epidemiologic analysis revealed that mortality rates are increasing in the middle-aged white male population, largely due to preventable conditions like poisonings and overdoses.

  • Reductions in mortality were seen in other racial groups.

American Cancer Society, in a Shift, Recommends Fewer Mammograms

By DENISE GRADY OCT. 20, 2015

New York Times

One of the most respected and influential groups in the continuing breast-cancer screening debate said on Tuesday that women should begin mammograms later and have them less frequently than it had long advocated.

The American Cancer Society, which has for years taken the most aggressive approach to screening, issued new guidelines on Tuesday, recommending that women with an average risk of breast cancer start having mammograms at 45 and continue once a year until 54, then every other year for as long as they are healthy and expected to live another 10 years.

The organization also said it no longer recommended clinical breast exams, in which doctors or nurses feel for lumps, for women of any age who have had no symptoms of abnormality in the breasts.

QotD: Health

He who has health, has hope;

he who has hope, has everything.

QotD: Chemicals or Food for Your Health?

One of the biggest tragedies of human civilization is the precedence of chemical therapy over nutrition. It's a substitution of artificial therapy over natural, of poisons over food, in which we are feeding people poison trying to correct the reactions of starvation. You all know how ridiculous that is, but you all know how widely it's being done.

US Senate Recognizes Naturopathic Medicine

The just-passed resolution recognizes naturopathy as "safe, effective, affordable health care" and specifically recognizes the value of ND's in preventing disease. (ND's are currently licensed in 17 states, more to come.) It also designates a week for Naturopathic Medicine---Oct 7-13 this year.

Senate Passes Naturopathic Medicine Week Resolution
The U.S. Senate last night unanimously passed a resolution designating October 7 - October 13 as Naturopathic Medicine Week.

The resolution recognizes the value of naturopathic medicine in providing "safe, effective, and affordable health care..." and encourages Americans to learn about the role of naturopathic physicians in preventing chronic and debilitating conditions.

Passage of this resolution is an historic achievement for naturopathic medicine. The Congress has now officially recognized the important role naturopathic medicine plays in effectively addressing the nation's health care needs as well as in addressing the increasingly severe shortage of primary care physicians.

Walking better than Chemo for Cancer

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/780807?src=wnl_edit_specol&uac=89474MT

Great to hear a conventional oncologist going over the recent research and saying that doctors should suggest walking instead of chemo for cancer patients. But guess what: it's more effective. So getcha some sneaks and get out there. And get a dog: it will MAKE you walk.

Get ND's covered by Obamacare

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/include-licensed-naturopathic-physicians-primary-care-providers-federal-healthcare-law-obamacare/rW0MNqMt

If you know me, you know that I have mixed feelings about Obamacare. My issue with it is the fact that insurance is not healthcare, and modern healthcare would be better named sickcare for the profit of insurance. But since Obama is back in, and the law passed the Supreme Court challenge, I'm going to be working under it. What a sad state of affairs to be required to purchase insurance that would not cover naturopathic care. So I signed the petition, and I hope you will too.

Mammography Out per Cochrane Collaboration

The Cochrane folks have determined that mammography is no longer indicated as cancer screening for women of any age! Here's the brochure: http://www.cochrane.dk/screening/mammography-leaflet.pdf. You can get them in any language at: http://www.cochrane.dk/.
Mercola breaks it down quite well in this article.
Here's the latest (Aug 2011) study.

Excellent article here by Dr Schor, on Aspirin/Cox inhibitors for breast cancer prevention or prevention of recurrence:
http://www.naturalmedicinejournal.com/article_content.asp?edition=1§ion=2&article=271&utm_source=Natural+Medicine+Journal+List&utm_campaign=6379125056-December_2011_Issue11_28_2011&utm_medium=email
Pearl: Over-expression of COX-2 occurs in about 40% of invasive breast cancer cases and is more common in large tumors, positive lymph nodes, ductal histology, and tumors that are high histological grade or hormone receptor–negative. Thus it makes even more sense to attempt to affect COX activity in women whose cancers fit these criteria.
