Deleting Texts As Destroying Evidence

This engineer (ironically named Mix) knew that the 4/20/10 BP oil geyser was bigger than the company had told the media, and they're arresting him for deleting 300 text messages on that subject. Not to be totally uppity but I KNEW at the time that the guesstimated amount was likely to be false and low. Anybody with half a brain knew the number was not likely to be the eventual truth. They just picked a nice round number and were sticking to it. It sorta sickens me to see an engineer go down for this. Somebody higher on the food chain is more responsible, and for more heinous crimes.

Verizon Takes Over the World

This might end up being important:

Under the deal announced Friday, Verizon will pay $3.6 billion to Comcast, Time Warner and Bright House Networks to use a swath of cellphone airwaves that the cable giants own but do not use. That would cement Verizon’s status as the dominant wireless carrier and give it access to valuable spectrum at a time when its primary rival — AT&T — is struggling to expand its network through a controversial proposed merger with T-Mobile.

What Kind of Cell Phone Should I Get?

I'm between an iphone and a cheap prepaid phone. I now have an LG. I could live without texting though it is cool. My finances are uncertain, so it is tempting to live on the cheap to sustain. On the other hand, it is tempting to get the tools that are likely to make me most successful, and the iphone could be one of those tools. What say you?

They interviewed patients with gliomas and meningiomas and compared the two against matched controls.

Looks like cell phone use could be slightly protective against gliomas!?
I doubt it but it's interesting.... I wonder how reliable interview data is...

Don't Text Me

http://www.npr.org/blogs/alltechconsidered/2009/06/please_dont_text_me.html?sc=fb&cc=fp

I was pleased to find that I am not the only one who doesn't want to pay extra for the ability to text, and doesn't appreciate the fact that if someone texts me (regardless of my desires) I get charged for it.

Secret Oregon Hotsprings #412

Jen and Eugene were in the hotsprings when we got there yesterday, Suz and M and I drove down there, a goodly ways down I-5 to highway 22 east and out to a town called "Detroit". I drove Suzanne's vehicle, because M's car is small and she drives like a Californian. I'm not sure how long it took us to get to the trailhead, but it was something like 2 hours. The trailhead is a pullout by the road, not far from the resort.
