I am not the only one who thinks it might be a good time to get involved and rehab the malfunctioning Republican Party. Libertarians in Manhattan have "encouraged" Dr. Ron Paul to seek the Republican nomination for the '08 presidential race.

"Go Ron Go": Manhattan Libertarians Encourage Ron Paul To Run For President in 2008

Manhattan Libertarian Party Director of Media Relations

At the 2007 Annual Convention of the Manhattan Libertarian Party, a
resolution was passed encouraging Ron Paul to seek the Republican
Party's nomination for President. Nic Leobold, the original proponent
of the resolution sought to have the convention delegates "endorse"
Ron Paul, since he argued Dr. Paul is "the Gold Standard Candidate for
all who cherish liberty". However, the delegates amended his
resolution changing the word "endorse" to a more general
"encouragement" that he run. Some were concerned an actual endorsement
of another party's possible presidential candidate might violate the
bylaws of the Libertarian Party while others have already committed
themselves to support other presidential candidates such as Alden Link
and Christine Smith who are seeking the Libertarian Party's
Presidential Nomination.

Despite the fact that Dr. Paul sits in the House of Representatives
as a Republican, he has close ties to the Libertarian Party, having
been its Presidential Candidate in 1988. As recently as 2004, Dr. Paul
spoke at the Libertarian Party's National Convention in Atlanta,
Georgia. But his respect among Libertarians is based on more than his
past relationship with the party. While in Congress, Rep. Paul has
been a proponent for liberty, opposing the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act in 2001
and 2005, and being a strong critic of the Iraq War Resolution. He
also advocates the decentralization of government and economic
deregulation to create an environment more conducive for small
business entrepreneurship.

The support of Libertarians should not hurt Ron Paul's appeal with
the rank and file members of the Republican Party. His views on
individual liberty, less government and lower taxes place him solidly
in the mold of Senator Barry Goldwater and President Ronald Reagan.
Further, his support of non-interventionism harkens back to pre-New
Deal Republicans such as Henry Cabot Lodge. But most importantly, his
nomination and possible election to the Presidency could revive and
fulfill the Contract with America that Republicans have sought since 1994.

Re: Ron Paul/Manhattan LP: Just to clarify this discussion
Just to clarify this discussion, my original proposed resolution did not
"encourage Ron Paul TO run for President", it encouraged his candidacy AFTER
he had already announced his plans to run. That is why my original
resolution was to "endorse his candidacy". The Manhattan LP Convention took
my original resolution langauge and amended it by sloppily replacing
"endorse" with "encourage". Unfortunately, you can't get good English
writing just by playing around with words and punctuation like a jigsaw
puzzle. We should have spent more time on discussing the wording of this
resolution, but the entire Convention was being rushed and pressured by the
presiding officer, which deprived the meeting of significant contributions
on other items as well. Here is the final language of the resolution as
passed by the Manhattan LP Convention:

"The Manhattan Libertarian Party Annual Convention of 2007
encourages the candidacy of Ron Paul for President of the United States in
the campaign of 2008."

Again, I strongly feel the Convention should have stuck to my original
language including the word "endorse", but we all know only too well that
any group of Libertarians couldn't survive one day without arguing or
disagreeing about SOMETHING.

Just to clarify
Thanks for the clarification. I understand that language is a slippery medium, and your original intent may not come through in the final language....so be it. We need something to argue about, and for the moment, this will do! Can't do much about conventions, other than break them.
