Body Language: the face of Shame

The farther the lips are rolled in, the more intense the emotion. General McChrystal is deeply ashamed in this photo.

The thing I find unforgivable is that by undermining his chain of command he damaged the moral of his own people. Regardless of what an officer might think he is not at liberty to share that with his 'other ranks'. There's a scene on Crimson Tide where Denzel Washington (No 1) questions Gene Hackman (Captain) and is quietly asked to come to the Captain's cabin where he gets torn a new arsehole. That is how it's done and the 2IC of a bomber would never get to that rank without knowing not to question the boss in public.

So General McCrystal has been a very bad man, at best stupid and at worst making a political play for the benefit of his old bosses party.

If he's not ashamed he damned well should be.

He's ashamed. That's the point. He knows.
