It's strange how long the days are now, compared to what they were in winter. It's after 6pm, and the sun is still very high. In the winter the sun set at 4pm. Recently I have not been getting enough sleep because by the time the sun sets it's bedtime, but I stay up for a few more hours, which puts me past midnight getting to bed. Then first light is...I'm not sure when, but early. I'm always thoroughly awake by 6am. I'm going to begin a morning practice, meditation and yoga, in the hours that I have been lounging around in bed. I think it will be good. I'm not sure what will happen when the days get short again. I will cross that bridge when I come to it. For now the plan is to go to bed at sundown and get up at sunrise.
My visiting friend Joel says that while driving today he listened to right wing radio, and they were construing the 75,000 person crowd for Obama's speech as the people who came to hear some rock band play, and Obama just sneaked in on their crowd. Apparently the band that played while the crowd waited was a local Portland band who traditionally plays the Russian national anthem before each concert, and the right wingers are getting some mileage out of that too.
Joel also said that he heard them getting extremely irate with Keith Olberman, who has a lot of negative things to say about the Shrub regime. I personally think that it's about time. It has been "un-PC" and "un-American" and "un-Patriotic" and all that to criticize our government or military, and I am glad that Olberman is speaking out. Of course he is taking his chances of a sudden and accidental death, but if he does "commit suicide" or get in a plane crash, it will not be too late. He has already had his impact.
This morning the kitten seemed really upset. She was wandering around, looking all over the bed, smelling the pillows, looking under the bed. She covered the entire apartment and then came back to the bed, but she did not sit down. She is upset that Suzanne is gone.
