New Age Nonsense

In case you were taken by the idea of the Law of Attraction, and thought you could keep yourself from suffering or dying of cancer by keeping your thoughts pure----here's what happened to the writer who popularized this concept: http://www.squidoo.com/death-of-abraham-hicks-esther-and-jerry-hicks-creation.

It is always dangerous to confuse spiritual teaching with miracle healing. Just because a few people have possessed both talents, there is no reason to expect a healer to be a teacher or vice versa. I would not accept medical advice from someone i did not know or trust, somebody i had not talked to face to face whether MD, Chiropractor, Naturopath, faith healer, shaman, psychic healer, etc. etc.

"Abraham" was totally under my radar until i noticed that a couple of my LJ friends were frequently quoting "him." Usually the quotes (never framed as medical advice) made sense and when they didn't i ignored them.

Personally, i am opposed to leadership or followership. I will take good advice from anybody, but bad advice from no one. I am not fan of "new age" but "new age" sometimes translated the age old teachings of other cultures that i might not otherwise have noticed. But, since all translation fails to totally share the meaning and context of the original, i am always aware of potential danger (people dying in "new age" sweat lodges).

I like that rule of taking good advice from anyone and bad advice from no one. I hope to have the judgment to know the difference! Sometimes I accept challenging advice specifically FOR the challenge, and the danger can lie there.
