Wolves Reproducing around Oregon

This is great news in my book. I was out at the Imnaha river in spring and there is one of the first packs reported to have pups. I saw no sign of them. Now it sounds like most of the known Oregon packs have pups this year, even the newly discovered pack. Wild carnivores on the rise! We now have 53 wolves in Oregon. The ranchers hate it of course, but hopefully we can reach some equilibrium between livestock and canines that everyone can tolerate. I wonder if there might be some way to keep wild canines at bay that is as elegant as moving lights to keep away lions. Of course it's hard to protect your bovines when they're wandering far and wide...like those cows all along the Yampa. Need a wolf network up there too, keep the ranchers in line.

That really is great news. One more point in Oregon's favour.

In Wisconsin, there has been an expansion on wolf-hunting, after some years of commendable protection. Walker's administration has loosened up restrictions on wolf-baiting, I believe. And deer don't fare better. So, both predator and prey are being hunted, with various rationalisations. The wolf crack-down is mainly serving the interest of big-agra, which is under the illusion that wolves go after cattle, etc., when that is not frequent - but they don't have the means to keep an eye out, as they don't for weeds, etc., so they simply choose to spend money on the easiest way out, including buying politicians.

Say - maybe one day you'd like to do a post of all the good points you like about Oregon, vs all the bad points. One good point that interests me is their new strategy for college-repayment.

Do tell about the college repayment. I live here and I haven't heard. =-] Thankfully we are getting the local paper again, while it is still in print. We're going to lose it this fall.

I read up on The Oregonian, which has been a great paper, on wikipedia - seems not entirely be shutting down.

(Note - my comp is currently being buggered - hopefully it doesn't get shut down...)

(I miss newspapers, but they paper/recycling was a lot to deal with. Unfortunately, w/ everything going to the internet, including currency, we in big danger of some central authority controlling everything, some solar EMP, or etc.)

Anyway, there is some kind of new programme where college is "free" - the state pays for it. Then, when the graduate is employed, they pay the state back via a percentage on their income - 3% or something. This is one of the most progressive ideas I've seen introduced in like forever.
